Michael Pezzetta opens up about the “most difficult period of my career”

Left out for 28 consecutive games by the Montreal Canadiens, Michael Pezzetta says he experienced the most trying stretch of his career.

“Mentally it was the most difficult time. It was difficult to stay on track. But the guys were so attentive,” said the support player, who finally returned to the Habs lineup Friday night in a 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks in Chicago. Watch his press briefing in the video above.

Pezzetta’s last game dates back to October 27 in Philadelphia against the Flyers. Head coach Martin St-Louis called on him again on Friday, because striker Patrik Laine had to give up, bothered by flu symptoms.

“It was just nice to be back with the guys. I was just excited to play,” said Pezzetta, even though he only had five minutes and dust on the ice.

He himself said he was impressed by his physical form after such a long absence.

“I felt good. I felt better than I expected, honestly.”

The CH is back in action on Saturday for a second game in two nights against the Colorado Avalanche in Denver. We’ll see if Pezzetta gets a fifth game or if Laine is ready to make a return.
