“From pints to catwalks.” The sports daily The Team had explained, in one of its magazine topics published in 2023, “How darts conquered the planet”. Not yet all its corners, of course, but this irresistible rise continues to reach new countries, and Switzerland is not immune to the phenomenon.
We were happy to see this last September in Basel. This is where, for the first time, the European tour concocted by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), the mammoth darts organization, made a stopover in our country. Darts stars? We are still dealing with a few pot-bellied players, but they, like the entire field, are true professionals, impressing with their maddening precision and their unfailing mentality. Beer? For a long time now, it has moved from the playing area to the countless rows of tables occupied by fans, the vast majority in disguise, where, there, obviously, it flows freely.
The 2nd edition of the Swiss Darts Trophy, mark it in red in your diary, will take place again over three days, from September 26 to 28 at the Saint-Jacques hall. And hurry: nine months before the event, the Saturday evening session is sold out, except for a few snippets of seats. For the Sunday evening event, a good three quarters of the tickets have already found takers.
While waiting for the Basel meeting, there is no better appetizer than the final of the world championships. She will compete… this Friday evening in the legendary Alexandra Palace, north of London. The same place where, some two weeks ago, Zougois Stefan Bellmont broke another glass ceiling. He was the very first Swiss to enter the final draw of the competition.
