When public holiday rhymes with hockey at the Vaudoise arena – Lausanne HC

The end-of-year celebrations have just ended, the champagne has been popped and fans of the Lausanne Hockey Club can come and enjoy their day off at the Vaudoise arena. For the occasion, the Lions welcome the surprising Kloten Aviators at 3:45 p.m. for a meeting which will be played to a sold-out crowd. The pre-match is presented to you by our main partner, Vaudoise assurances.

Lions with the wind in their sails

Returning from the last international break with an almost full squad, the Lausanne team managed to refocus on their collective qualities and showed an ultra-competitive face. With 4 victories in as many matches and 11 points accumulated, it is above all through their defensive assiduity that the men of Geoff Ward have undermined their recent adversaries. Like a David Sklenicka on big nights (58 shots blocked since the start of the 24-25 exercise), it’s the entire defensive block, deprived ofAndrea Glauser, which gave an impression of domination against the opposing attackers. Holder every time, the doorman Kevin Pasche has nothing to do with the latest Vaudois successes. With 2 shutouts, 4 goals conceded and more than 97% average save rate over the last 4 matches, number 33 of the LHC has shown all of his qualities to ice hockey fans.

These statistics are enough to delight all of the 9,600 spectators who will gather this Thursday at the Vaudoise arena, to support our Lions against Zurich residents who have been defying predictions since the start of the 2024-25 season.

Around the Finnish offensive duo Miro Aaltonen (17 goals & 13 assists) and Niko Ojamäki (11 goals & 14 assists), the new coach’s squad Lauri Marjamäki surprises with the regularity of the results, whether at home or on the go. The Zurich collective can also rely on a pair of reliable goalkeepers since the start of the season. First worn by the excellent French-speaking Ludovic Waeberit’s the turn of Sandro Zurkirchen (27 goals conceded in 15 matches) to make the good days of the Aviators club. Right in front of Kloten’s cage, the new arrival in the National League Sami Nikudemonstrates all his qualities in attack and in his defensive positioning (2nd best blocker in the League).

Lausanne HC (2nd – 61 points)

  • 32 matches played, 21 victories (including 2 in overtime and 3 on penalties) and 11 defeats (including 1 in overtime and 2 on penalties)
  • 100 goals scored and 87 goals conceded
  • 27.16% efficiency in powerplay and 82.18% efficiency in boxplay
  • 1025 shots taken on goal (9.76% efficiency)
  • 7 shutouts

EHC Kloten (5th – 57 points)

  • 33 matches played, 20 victories (including 2 in overtime and 3 on penalties) and 13 defeats (including 2 on penalties)
  • 88 goals scored and 88 goals conceded
  • 15.73% efficiency in powerplay and 70.11% efficiency in boxplay
  • 888 shots taken on goal (10.02% efficiency)
  • 3 shutouts

The Aviators’ great weakness that the Lausanne Hockey Club will have to try to exploit is their difficulty in containing numerical inferiorities without conceding a goal. With a powerplay in great shape at the start of the season, the Vaudois have all the qualities in hand to take this aspect of the game into their own with specialists like Ahti Oksanen or Ken Jaeger.
