With two selections entered for the FibaAfrique Zone 2 U16 International Tournament (December 27 to 29), the Lioncaux and Lioncelles staff are entering the home stretch of their preparation, at Marius Ndiaye and Cneps de Thiès. The tournament begins this Friday in Thiès.
The two men's and women's selections of Senegal are actively preparing for the Fiba Zone 2 U16 Tournament, scheduled for December 27 to 29, 2024, in Thiès. In full preparation at the Marius Ndiaye Stadium since last week, the Lion Cubs are entering the home stretch towards the competition. Without much preparation time, with a competition confirmed at the last minute, the Lion Cubs had only less than a week of assembly. Too insufficient to schedule friendly matches in order to approach the competition in the best conditions.
Faced with the difficulties, the technical staff preferred day-school sessions, with a group at the Marius Ndiaye Stadium and another at the Cneps in Thiès. This tournament should allow young people to experience the realities of international competitions.
Despite the lack of preparation time, Senegal intends to sell its skin dearly. A bet far from won. As a reminder, the competition will bring together 7 countries from Zone 2. Besides Senegal, there are Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Cape Verde. On the other hand, Mali will ultimately not be in the game. Note that some countries will enter two teams, while others will prepare either a women's team or a men's team.
The tournament begins this Friday and the matches will be played at Cneps and at the Lat Dior field in Thiès. Some delegations, such as Guinea, have already reached the Cité du Rail, while the others are expected in the coming hours.
