The closing ceremony of the festivities marking the centenary of the promulgation of the first legislative text governing the legal profession in Morocco was held on Friday in Tangier.
Organized by the Moroccan Bar Association and the Tangier Bar Association, under the theme “The Bars of Morocco: a century of journey”, the ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, of the delegated president of the Superior Council of the Judicial Power (CSPJ), M'hamed Abdennabaoui, of the president of the Moroccan Bar Association, of the secretary general of the presidency of the public prosecutor, Hicham Bellaoui, of the president of the Order of lawyers in Tangier, Anouar Bellouki, representatives of institutions and official bodies, as well as former and current presidents of the bar, Moroccan and foreign.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Abdennabaoui described this event as historic, recalling the noble values and traditions which characterize the legal profession, in particular the attachment to the principles of justice and fairness.
He also underlined that this celebration commemorates the centenary of the promulgation of the Dahir of January 10, 1924, the first legislative text governing the legal profession in Morocco, adding that this historic milestone was followed by the adoption of national laws governing other legal professions, notably notaries in 1925 and certified translators in 1928.
For his part, Mr. Ouahbi highlighted “the civilizational depth of this noble profession” and its historical role in the defense of just causes, universal human values, and in the guarantee of a fair trial, welcoming at the same time occasion, the national dynamic of the major reforms that Morocco is experiencing under the wise leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.
Mr. Bellouki, for his part, affirmed that the celebration of the centenary of the bars represents an essential step in rethinking the legal profession, recalling its crucial role in the defense of national interests, as well as in the promotion of justice throughout the world. throughout history.
This celebration “is inspired by the glories of the past while turning resolutely towards the future,” he noted, also saluting the sacrifices of the founding generations of this profession in Morocco.
For his part, the president of the Moroccan Bar Association, Houssein Zayani, indicated that the legal profession has become, with the independence of Morocco, an “essential partner in the construction of the rule of law and of its institutions”, recalling that lawyers have significantly contributed to the drafting of legislative texts and the promotion of the principles of justice and human rights.
The legal profession, he continued, occupies a prestigious position and carries with it a memory rich in glories and noble commitments, adding that it embodies a symbol of freedom in all judicial systems in the world and constitutes one of the essential pillars to guarantee justice.
These festivities, which took place over 10 days, included a rich and varied program, notably with the organization of the 4th Annual Forum of Women Lawyers, a conference on “Discrimination in the laws: a comparative study”, as well as as the announcement of the creation of the “Women’s Legal Observatory”.
A literary and artistic salon, poetic and musical performances, as well as a conference on “Literature and the profession of lawyer: a reading from the outside”, were also organized, accompanied by the announcement of the creation of the “Literary Salon” of the Tangier Bar Association.
Furthermore, the event included an exhibition entitled “Memory of the Bars”, a major national conference in coordination with the Moroccan Bar Association on “The History of the Bars”, and the signing of a partnership agreement between the Moroccan Bar Association and the National Bar Association of France.
