Across the NHL: Calgary Flames announce changes behind the bench

The Calgary Flames announced Sunday that the head coach of the AHL's Calgary Wranglers, Trent Cull, will take Brad Larsen's place on an interim basis as an NHL assistant coach.

Larsen left the organization on December 8 for personal reasons.

For his part, Cull is in his second season at the helm of the Wranglers. He also has 15 years of experience in the American League and was an assistant for the Vancouver Canucks during the 2022-23 season.

“Our priority is to give Brad and his family support during this time when they need it most,” said Flames general manager Craig Conroy. While Brad remains with his family, we have made his interim changes to ensure our team and development have the resources to continue. »

Wranglers assistant coach Joe Cirella will take Cull's place behind the AHL team's bench, while Martin Gélinas and Brett Sutter will be his assistants. Cirella has over 20 years of experience between the OHL and AHL. He will be head coach of the Wranglers for the first time.
