Axel Witsel, the discreet hero of Atlético against FC Barcelona – All football

Axel Witsel produced a big performance during Atlético's victory against FC Barcelona. The Red Devil contributed to his team's comeback.

FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid faced each other this Saturday for the 19th day of La Liga. In a totally crazy encounter, Diego Simeone's men came back to score thanks to a goal from Alexander Sørloth at the very end of the match.

While the score was still 0-1 in favor of the Catalans, Axel Witsel entered the game in the 52nd minute. The Red Devil replaced José María Giménez, who suffered a foot injury. Credited with a yellow card after his rise, everything got off to a bad start for the former Rouche. But he ultimately produced a very good performance and allowed his team to resist Barcelona's attacks, which allowed Atlético to turn the situation around and win.

This is not the first time that the native of Liège has returned to the game before a comeback. At the beginning of December, Witsel had already participated in the Colchoneros' turnaround against Sevilla. Trailing 2-3 when the Belgian player entered, Atlético finally won 4-3.

With this victory, despite one game less, the Madrilenians take first place in the standings with 3 points ahead of the Barcelonans, who have one game more. Real, for its part, has two games less (one less than Atlético) and could therefore take second place this afternoon.
