Pape Thiaw faces salary challenge to become national coach

The selection process for the new coach of the Senegalese national team, initially perceived as a pure formality, now reveals several complexities. While the Senegalese Federation seemed unanimous in its choice of Pape Thiaw, salary issues cast a shadow over his imminent appointment. As reported by Sud Quotidien, the issue lies in salary treatment, a subject where the Ministry of Sports shows intransigence.

During his recent intervention on RTS, Nala Soce Fall, technical advisor to the Minister of Sports, stressed that Thiaw, supported by the federal executive committee, could not hope to benefit from the same financial conditions as his predecessor. Fall insisted on results-based treatment, a requirement seen as fair to other sporting disciplines. This ministerial stance contrasts with the popular enthusiasm surrounding Thiaw's candidacy, fueling a tension between public expectations and government budgetary constraints.

According to Sud Quotidien, this start of his mandate is becoming more complex for Pape Thiaw, caught between the obvious support of the Federation and the government's reservations regarding his remuneration. The imposed salary adjustment seems to call into question not only his hope of rapid dubbing but also the recognition of the position he is supposed to occupy. Thus, the current situation poses a reflection on the status and benefits attached to the function of national coach in the Senegalese financial context.
