Carl Hoefkens is a sensation in the Netherlands, he explains what has changed compared to Standard – All football

Carl Hoefkens is the author of a very good first part of the season with the NAC. The Breda team is ninth and exceeds expectations.

This summer, Carl Hoefkens relaunched in the Netherlands after frustrating experiences at Club Brugge and Standard. Six months after his arrival, NAC Breda, promoted to the Eredivisie, is doing particularly well.

In addition to ninth place in the standings, fans also appreciate the “combat football” that Hoefkens brings. The players display constant involvement, the message from the Belgian coach seems to stick to the mentality of the core and that of the club in general.

The team has already inherited the nickname 'Atletico Breda'. “I heard about it, and I think it’s a compliment,” Hoefkens said in Het Nieuwsblad. “I knew they wanted to see total football, with passion and enthusiasm, so that’s what we did.”

Carl Hoefkens can work in a more peaceful environment

“Obviously it was an adjustment for me. At Club Brugge and Standard I relied mainly on our strengths, whereas here we adapt more to the opponent and think more in terms of losing the ball.” he added.

Expectations are very different compared to Club Brugge and Standard. The context does a lot: he doesn't have to deal with C4 rumors every week: “It's a huge difference. It's allowed me to become a much better coach.”
