In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the opposition is alarmed by the financial and ecological cost of the 2030 Winter Games

The organization of the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games (JOP) in the French Alps is no longer unanimous among elected officials in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The enthusiasm displayed this summer, when the French candidacy was designated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was followed by distrust and reservations on the part of the opposition's regional advisors. And this, while the financial guarantee of the State is still not assured, due to lack of national budget.

The regional council, dominated by Les Républicains (LR), certainly adopted, on Friday December 20, a deliberation establishing the principle of the accession of the second region of to the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Cojop). “We are hard at work transforming the application elements into a real achievement”, declared Fabrice Pannekoucke, president (LR) of the regional council, who succeeded Laurent Wauquiez, elected deputy in July. But, during the debates, criticism came from both the left and the far right in the chamber.
