Westerlo is becoming more and more ambitious. The club wants to continue to strengthen itself sportingly, but also to equip itself with state-of-the-art infrastructure.
Westerlo's financial situation has deteriorated this year. Losses reached 60 million euros and debts increased to 40 million. Hasan Cetinkaya, vice-president of the club, explains that this is not abnormal: “These figures can be justified by the investments. What we have achieved here in recent years is unprecedented in Belgium.”
It must be said that the management was not spared: “The players' complex ultimately cost ten million euros,” he explains. “Mister Oktay's vision was to create an attractive club. We didn't just refresh this club, but we rebuilt it from scratch.”
The Kuipje too small for the board's ambitions?
And the Campinois do not intend to stop there: “It is now time to change the business model and generate more income. The objective is to balance the books this season.”
But this will not impact the transfer window: “No, the focus of investments is now entirely on sporting development. We continue to invest in the team because sporting growth remains our priority.”
Westerlo is also working on a new stadium: “It will be a multifunctional arena that will be open seven days a week. With offices, a commercial area, restaurants, etc. For this, we are looking for investors and commercial partners “.
