NHL: Matvei Michkov would have done anything to be drafted in Philadelphia

The management of the Montreal Canadiens attracted attention this week with its trip to Russia to watch Ivan Demidov play and take the opportunity to meet St. Petersburg SKA head coach Roman Rotenberg.

The visit prompted Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman to talk about the Canadiens' star prospect on his “32 Thoughts” podcast Friday morning…and confirm rumors about Matvei Michkov.

“I met a few people who told me that Demidov is a monster. He is a monster. They got him with the fifth pick last year,” praised Friedman about the Habs prospect, who scored his team’s winning goal on Thursday.

A year earlier, CH had passed over young prodigy Matvei Michkov to select defender David Reinbacher.

The move has since led many Canadiens fans to criticize the management, although rumors had it that Michkov had set his future toward Philadelphia.

“You know, there are people who are beating Montreal on the head for not having selected Michkov… Michkov wanted to go to Philadelphia. We have to stop all this. Michkov worked for this, he arranged to be drafted by Philadelphia,” Friedman first said, before making a link between Michkov and Demidov.

“What's happening with Demidov… people have said it will help ease the pain that Canadiens fans are feeling after Michkov was not selected. »

Michkov is at the height of the race for the Calder in his first season in the NHL, with 11 goals and 27 points in 31 games.

In Russia, despite particularly limited playing time, Demidov produced 7 goals and 14 assists for a total of 21 points in 35 games.
