AS Saint-Étienne announced the appointment of Eirik Horneland as coach this Friday, December 20. He replaces Olivier Dall’Oglio, dismissed from his position on December 14 after the defeat of the Greens in Toulouse, the 10e of the season.
At 49 years old, this is the first time that Eirik Horneland will officiate outside of Norway. Elected best coach in his country in 2022, the tactician therefore leaves SK Brann, which he had led since 2021. He had led this club to second place in the Norwegian championship in 2023 and 2024, and to the title of winner of the cup in 2023. Courted by several clubs, he therefore chose ASSE to take on a major challenge: relaunching the club, 16e and Ligue 1 play-off player.
“It is a real honor to join a great club like AS Saint-Étienne, not only for its history and its record, but above all for the role it plays in an entire city and the fervor it generates. I can’t wait to discover the Cauldron and get to work with the players, the staff and all the components of the club.” explains Eirik Horneland in a press release.
The Norwegian is placed at the head of the Greens until 2027, indicates the Saint-Etienne club in a press release, “with additional option”. Accompanied by Hassan El Fakiri, his assistant coach, ” Eirik Horneland’s mission will be to put to the benefit of the team his experience gained and recognized at SK Brann (Norway) to develop a culture of performance and a style of play specific to ASSE,” explains the club.
Arriving this Friday in Forez, the new Saint-Etienne coach will conduct his first training session when the team resumes on December 29. In the meantime, it is Laurent Huard, director of the training center, who will lead the Greens for the 32e final of the Coupe de France.
