“He won’t play tomorrow, then we’ll see how the next 48 hours go and we’ll see if it’s possible for him to play one of our games against Los Angeles or Boston,” explained the coach. -chief Spencer Carbery in press briefing, Thursday.
Ovechkin has been sidelined since suffering a broken left leg on November 18. Watch in main video.
He started skating again on December 2, after having to be absent for a period of four to six weeks.
“I think it would be difficult for him to do it tomorrow with the short time he has spent in training, but it is about the next step, him getting the green light to participate in exercises with resistance and contact,” added Carbery.
The 39-year-old Russian led the National Hockey League with 15 goals at the time of his absence. He had 25 points in just 18 games.
If he is not ready in time for the Capitals’ next duels, Ovechkin could return to action on December 28 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
