After 39 days of racing in the 2024 Vendée Globe, it’s official, Charlie Dalin is for the first time ahead of the record set by Armel Le Cléac’h, winner in 2017 (74 days, 3 hours and 35 minutes).
At this stage of the race, Armel le Cléac’h was behind 9,760 NM from the finish.
Charlie Dalin is at 9 237 NM.
Since the start of the race, this is the first time that a competitor has been ahead of this record.
The damage quickly forgotten
As a reminder, the day before the Le Havre skipper announced that his boat MACIF Santé Prévoyance had been victim of sail damage.
“I had a little problem with a sail on the New Zealand side. It took me 36 hours to repair it. It was a bit complicated to work in the sail locker with the boat doing peaks at 30 knots, I had my helmet on my head. »
The boat at “100% of its potential” once again shows that it is possible to fly over the Pacific Ocean.
Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa) and Sablais, Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil) complete the podium respectively 47.2 miles and 73.7 miles behind the first and are also ahead of Armel Le Cléac’h’s record.
