The organizers of the Australian Open have revealed the list of players who will take part in the tournament qualifications. Sixteen French men and eight French women are affected.
Twelve French men and five French women are guaranteed to compete in the Australian Open thanks to their ranking or the wild card granted to them by the French Tennis Federation (Lucas Pouille and Chloé Paquet, in this case). There will be 24 of them trying to join them through the qualifications. The organizers of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year have revealed the list of players who will try to win three matches to join the big draw. And we find 16 French people and 8 French women. The lucky ones on the ATP side are named Richard Gasquet, Luca Van Assche, Harold Mayot, Pierre-Hugues Herbert, Hugo Grenier, Terence Atmane, Grégoire Barrère, Titouan Droguet, Constant Lestienne, Clément Chidekh, Valentin Royer, Calvin Hemery, Enzo Couacaud, Antoine Escoffier, Matteo Martineau and Ugo Blanchet , ranked between 116th and 222nd place in the world. If we rely on the figures for 2024 (which, a priori, will not decrease in 2025), each of the participants in the first round of qualifications will receive 18,700 euros, and the sum will increase to 72,100 for a qualification in the big picture . At 38 years old, and with already more than 20 million euros accumulated in tournament winnings since the start of his career, Richard Gasquet will not take part in these qualifications for money, but for pleasure, he who hopes to compete in his 18th and last Australian Open. “I didn’t ask for a wild card. Make way for the young people. Making the qualifiers suits me,” the Biterrois confided to RMC at the start of the week.
Mladenovic will be there too
On the WTA side, there will be eight Blues to try their luck: Jessika Ponchet, Léolia Jeanjean, Elsa Jacquemot, Selena Janicijavic, Manon Leonard, Kristina Mladenovic, Carole Monnet and Alice Tubelloall ranked between 133rd and 220th place in the world. Océane Dodin (111th), surprising eighth finalist in Melbourne last January, is however absent from the list and will therefore lose 240 points and tumble down the rankings. In 2024, four French people had qualified for the Australian Open (Grenier, Atmane, Ferro Jeanjean). Will they do better in 2025?
