Kakko, chosen second overall in the 2019 draft by the Rangers, had been the subject of trade rumors for several days. The 23-year-old skater was left out of the game against the St. Louis Blues last Sunday before being the least used forward Tuesday night in a loss to the Nashville Predators.

Despite his high selection ranking, the Turku native has never been convincing in a Rangers uniform. Besides a 40-point campaign in 2022-23, he has never amassed more than 23 points in a season.

In 330 NHL games, he has 61 goals and 70 assists for 131 points. This season, he had four goals and 10 assists in 30 games.

Borgen, a solid 27-year-old, has 247 games under his belt in the NHL, the vast majority of which were played with the Kraken after he was selected in the 2021 expansion draft.

The American has scored nine goals and 46 assists since his NHL debut.
