Future stadium of FC Sion: Christian Constantin sets an ultimatum

Will FC Sion one day play in a new stadium? The project for the future stadium took a hit on Wednesday. The meeting between the State of Valais, the City of Sion and FC Sion did not make it possible to decide among the options under study and did not lead to an agreement, reveals Le Nouvelliste.

In June 2024, five and a half months after the signing of a letter of intent by the various stakeholders in this project, the club unveiled images of its future ultra-modern setting. Named Matterhorn Coliseum, whose completion of work was scheduled for 2029, the enclosure was intended to host football matches, but also concerts and other events.

Faced with this new setback, Christian Constantin issued an ultimatum to the public authorities. “If we do not finalize the project by June 30, 2025, I will cease my activity,” declared the president of FC Sion to the Valais media. Otherwise? Well it would have been “tried and couldn’t”. Currently, we can say that everything is open.

As a reminder, this state-of-the-art stadium has a retractable roof, a hotel with around a hundred rooms, a shopping arcade, VIP boxes, a bar with a view of the field and a gourmet restaurant , was to be the central element of the “Sion 2030” project. The project is estimated at 510 million francs.

Still according to Le Nouvelliste, the State of Valais and the City of Sion will communicate on this matter in the coming days.
