The beginning of the end? “Genk could start 2025 in third position” – All football

The last few weeks have been less obvious for KRC Genk. The defeat against Club Brugge last weekend could well be a turning point.

After their 2-0 victory against Genk, Club Brugge is only a small point behind the championship leader. Worse: Nicky Hayen’s team gave the impression that there was a solid gap between it and Racing, which we thought would be solid this season.

But does this mean that Genk are suddenly no longer the title favorites in the Jupiler Pro League? Thorsten Fink himself recalled that “the number 1 team in Belgium is Bruges”. “It’s a snapshot of the current situation”, puts things into perspective Hein Vanhaezebrouck In The Newspaper.

“In Belgium, we have playoffs, so we should not draw hasty conclusions. The problem is that some players are no longer able to reach the required level,” admits the former Gantoise coach, however.

Vanhaezebrouck cites the names of these players who are not up to standard in his eyes. “Bonsu Baah, Steuckers, Heynen are not yet reaching their best level, Van Crombrugge made a mistake.”

The upcoming program is also strong in the coming weeks. “Anderlecht goes to the Cegeka Arena, then towards Bosuil: it could well be that, by the new year, Genk only finds itself in third position and then risks dragging that out until 2025. We must react right now.”
