Gérard Lopez has sunk almost every club he has visited: Mouscron and Bordeaux can attest to this. Fortunately, Lille survived him, but it was not for lack of trying on the part of the Luxembourger…
From 2017 to 2020, Gérard Lopez was owner and president of LOSC, before having to sell the club due to colossal debts. At the time of his departure, the Spanish-Luxembourg businessman was also suspected of embezzlement in connection with the transfer of Victor Osimhen to Naples.
In The TeamOlivier Létang, current president of the Dogues, confirmed that this transfer, officially a record for a Lille sale, was a Lopez scam. The ex-Carolo is far from having brought in as much as expected at LOSC, sold for 70 million euros to Napoli.

“We also had to pay intermediaries, capital gains, commissions… LOSC earned a lot more money on the sales of Carlos Baleba to Brighton (30 million euros) and Amadou Onana to Everton (40 million euros)”, affirms the current president of Lille. A judicial investigation had been opened concerning this transfer, involving Gérard Lopez, Aurelio De Laurentiis and various intermediaries.
Unofficially, we can therefore consider that it is the Belgian Amadou Onana, sold for 40 million and therefore the second largest outgoing transfer in the history of LOSC, who is the real sales record…
