The Valaisanne delivered a demonstration on Tuesday during the second super-G in Zinal to win her first victory in the European Cup, 10 months after her left knee injury.
The coronation, finally, for Malorie Blanc! The Valaisanne scored a great first victory in the European Cup on Tuesday in Zinal barely 10 months after a major injury, to prove that she is indeed back at the top. Ayentôte, already a solid 4th the day before in her first event back at this level, won during the second super-G in Zinal with 0″35 ahead of the Italian Asja Zenere. A second Italian, Sara Allemand, completed the podium.
For Malorie Blanc, it is a first victory almost at home and a stone’s throw from Crans-Montana, where she was stopped in full swing last season: a better scenario cannot be written. Nothing should prevent a first start in the World Cup this weekend in Saint-Moritz for the skier from Anzère. She will go to Graubünden, and will decide at the last moment whether or not to set off, if the weather is not favorable for example.
A confirmation
To tell the truth, this success of Malorie Blanc is not a surprise. Crowned junior world champion in the super-G and vice-champion in the downhill in January in Châtel, the 21-year-old skier also scored her first podiums in the antechamber of the World Cup at the start of the year, before injured his left knee during the second descent of Crans-Montana in February. Back on the slopes this season, she quickly showed good things, finishing 3rd and 4th in FIS World Cup-style races at Beaver Creek. She is now confirmed in the Anniviarde station.
Stefanie Grob, already performing well this season, signed a new top 10 by finishing 5th in Zinal, equaling her best result in super-G. Janine Schmitt, who must also be on the trip to St. Moritz, finished 7th after her podium the day before. Elena Sanna Stucki (20th), Leandra Zehnder (22nd), Livia Rossi (25th) and Sina Fausch (28th) again finished in the top 30. Delphine Darbellay, good 11th the day before, was unable to finish the race.
