SLN: Latifah Abdu, first player for the Montreal Roses

The Montreal Roses announced Tuesday the signing of Latifah Abdu, the first player in history to officially reach an agreement with the club in the Super League of the North (SLN), the new Canadian women’s professional league.

The 23-year-old striker, a member of the Canadian national team in 2023, will return home after four years in Europe in the Arkema Premier League, the highest division of women’s football in .

“Joining a new project, at home, is an exceptional opportunity both on a sporting level and on a human level. My short-term objective: to continue my progress on the field and bring the maximum to my city and to the Montreal Roses club,” she commented in a press release.

“Latifah embodies unwavering determination, remarkable speed and immense potential. From the beginning of the project, I met a committed player, who believed in the team well before everything took shape,” said Marinette Pichon, sports director of the club.

“His speed, his precise crosses and his ability to create opportunities on the pitch will make the difference. Combative and driven by a strong collective spirit, Latifah will strengthen the team dynamic, while bringing her versatility, both in attack and defense. »

Originally from Montreal, Abdu got his start in the sport with the Lachine club, before honing his skills at Lakeshore SC.

In 2018 and 2019, Latifah played in the Quebec Premier Soccer League (PLSQ) with the Lac Saint-Louis Lakers and CS Monteuil. She then joined French club Soyaux in 2020, beginning her adventure in the elite Arkema Premier League.

Returning to Canada in 2021, she joined CS Mont-Royal Outremont, where she won the Golden Shoe and was named third best player in the PLSQ. The following year, Latifah returned to France to represent , before moving to . In July 2023, she was signed by FCO, before continuing her career with En Avant Guingamp in 2024.
