Nigerian Ademola Lookman was crowned African Player of the Year on Monday at the prestigious CAF Awards 2024 ceremony.
Determinant in the success of Atalanta Bergamo in the Europa League, as well as in Nigeria’s remarkable performance during the last CAN, Ademola Lookman shone throughout the year. His exceptional performance allowed him to win the 2024 African Player of the Year Trophy, confirming his status as a rising star of African football.
The 27-year-old striker notably beat Achraf Hakimi, the right side of PSG, during this ceremony. He succeeds his compatriot Victor Osimhen, who won the title the previous year.
Ademola Lookman is rewarded for his talent, his consistency and his decisive performances, both for club and national team. This coronation marks an exceptional year for the Atalanta Bergamo player, who has established himself as an indispensable element.
Lookman thus joins the prestigious circle of players who have won this title, succeeding icons like Sadio Mané (Senegal) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt), although the latter were not among the finalists this year.
Kalidou Koulibaly is the only Senegalese representative in this eleven. The Al-Hilal defender is distinguished for his good club season, as well as for his career with the Senegalese national team, which he led to the round of 16 at the last African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
