Discover Pape Thiaw’s impressive journey with CAF and FIFA!

The Senegal national team has a new coach: Pape Bouna Thiaw. Renowned for his victory at CHAN 2022 and for his successful interim at the head of the Lions after the departure of Aliou Cissé, the 43-year-old technician obtained his first diploma in 2016.

In an exclusive investigation, the daily Source A revealed the impressive career of Pape Thiaw. Between 2016 and 2018, he obtained the UEFA C, B and A licenses. As for the CAF A ​​License, he obtained it in 2023, after his triumph at CHAN, where he was elected best coach and nominated for the CAF Awards 2022. This allowed him to appear on the CAF restricted shortlist. The former Lions striker also completed a Higher Technician Diploma in , equivalent to the A License.

Pape Thiaw is also recognized as a technical expert by the Confederation of African (CAF). He began his career as an expert during the CAN Beach in Senegal, before repeating this experience during the CAN 2021 in Cameroon and U20 in 2022. Although he was designated an expert for the CAN 2023 in Côte d ‘Ivory, he had to decline this offer, having already joined the Lions staff.

In 2022, FIFA chose Pape Thiaw as an expert for the World Cup in Qatar. However, he opted to focus on preparing for CHAN, where he will shine. After his victory, he continued to work with FIFA during the U17 World Cups in Indonesia and U20 World Cups in Argentina in 2023, as a FIFA expert.
