Sports coach and teacher arrested for series of sex crimes

A high school teacher from the North Shore of Montreal, who has also coached several sports teams, was arrested Tuesday morning by the police for a series of sex crimes.

Bryan Mayer, 52, appeared at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse on charges of sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, voyeurism and criminal harassment.

All of the alleged victims are minors. The crimes with which Mayer is charged would have been spread over a period of 17 years, between 2006 and 2023.

“Bryan Mayer is a high school teacher. He worked in several schools during the period of the offences. Mayer coached several sports teams in which he befriended young players,” Terrebonne police said in a statement.

“Once the bond of trust was established, he then posed the gestures of sexual abuse. In addition to having been involved in the sports associations of Lanaudière, Mr. Mayer also acted as a volunteer in several youth spheres of his community, “added the police force.

Considering that many minors may have come into contact with Bryan Mayer over the years, investigators have reason to believe that other young minors may have been victims of similar acts over the past two decades.

Since several victims have been identified, the Serial Crime Investigation Management Structure (GECS), coordinated by the Sûreté du Québec, has been deployed as part of this investigation, in which the Terrebonne police are also collaborating.

Anyone with information about Bryan Mayer is invited to contact the Criminal Information Center of the Sûreté du Québec, at 1 800 659-4264.
