Can’t wait for summer.
Who says winter break says vacation in Austria, or simply bad news. After a late final match won 3-0 this weekend, RB Salzburg will return to the championship at the beginning of February… with a new coach. The Austrian club, 5e in the standings and no better off in the Champions League, has in fact formalized the separation with his coach.
A disastrous run in the Champions League
The name of Pepijn Lijnders doesn’t mean anything to the general public, but he will have had an important role in Jürgen Klopp’s staff at Liverpool (2015-2017, 2018-2024). After a very short first experience as head coach at NEC in the Netherlands, he tried his luck again this summer by settling on the bench of RB Salzburg, without success. The Dutch technician took over the club after seeing the title slip away for the first time since 2014, but with 7 victories in the first 16 matches, he was far from being able to recover the throne.
“Some time ago we began our analysis of an unfortunately unsatisfactory first half of the season. This is how we finally came to the conclusion that our team needed a new impetus under new management, although we hoped for a turnaround until the end, explained Stephan Reiter and Rouven Schröder, the leaders of RB Salzburg. We would like to thank Pep for his work. »
Bad times for the Pep.
