The Chinese navigator was surprised to be accompanied by cetaceans during his crossing of the Indian Ocean.
If last weekend some sailors encountered extremely harsh weather conditions which notably caused a dismasting on the British boat Pip Hare, others, like Jingkun Xu, benefited from a few moments of respite with good weather to relax a little their efforts.
The first Chinese in history to take part in a Vendée Globe published a video of a wonderful encounter with cetaceans while he was sailing in the Indian Ocean. Animals are rare in these regions and the sailor at the helm of Singchain Team Haikou was able to take full advantage of this moment of respite on Saturday.

“Look at these dolphins in the Southern Ocean. Hello guys! They are so beautiful”enthused the skipper at the controls of a 2007 boat (2nd in the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe under the name Brit Air and entrusted at the time to Armel Le Cléac’h). “It’s so cool. It’s my lucky day. Hello, I am from China”said the sailor while the two cetaceans seem to be having fun in front of the bow of the boat.

The 35-year-old sailor, Paralympic champion followed by around 23 million people on social networks, also had fun giving a name to an albatross which followed him for a little while. This one was named Xiao Ming. We see it at the very beginning of the video.
The end of the sequence is a little less cheerful since the current 34th in the ranking reveals that he injured his knee after suffering a sprained ankle at the start of the event. “A beautiful day begins!”still concluded the Chinese who should pass the Kerguelen Islands in the middle of the week.
