Re-elected at the head of the FFF for four years on Saturday, Philippe Diallo wishes to continue to “bring together” and will take action in January.
“You were elected with 55.34% of the votes. Are you surprised?
What is important, like in football, is to win the match. It was won by a margin which, I think, is significant enough to show that a fairly large majority of French football voted for our project. We always hope to do better by achieving an even higher score but quite honestly, finishing this unprecedented election with more than 55% of the votes is a very good result.
Your first step will be towards amateur football. This is a strong sign.
I carried out a project focused largely on amateur football. As I have done for the last two years, I try to implement what I say. With the new team supporting me, from January, a certain number of milestones will be set.
The Federation must create the conditions for a rebound in our professional clubs and the League.
You mentioned the “crisis in professional football”. What do you plan to do to help stop it?
On several occasions, I mentioned the crisis in professional football which, I said, is present and could continue. The Federation, which is the parent company of all French football, must create the conditions for a rebound in our professional clubs and the League. During the campaign, I said that I would take the initiative to very quickly bring all the players around the table and ensure that we can, with them, find mechanisms which will perhaps lead to renewing the economic model of our professional football.
How are you coming out of this election?
As we are a large Federation, it is a very intense election. Campaigning means going to the territories, to the clubs, the districts, the leagues… And meeting an electoral body of up to 12,000 members.
Which president will you be?
A bit like the French team, the DNA of the Federation is unity and coming together. I advocated this for the first two years. This has, I think, contributed to bringing peace to the FFF in its governance but also to restoring part of its image. I want to continue working in the same direction, and for the Federation to be a place of unity and gathering, which does not prevent debate. »
