“I came to spoil the party”, Surace recounts his exploit against Munguia and does not rule out a revenge

Guest of the RMC Fighter Club on Sunday evening, Bruno Surace looked back on his exploit against Jaime Munguia, whom he knocked out in Tijuana on Saturday when no one expected him. The boxer does not rule out the idea of a revenge in the future.

Bruno Surace had a dream week. For his first fight outside , the Marseillais (26 years old) knocked out – to everyone’s surprise – the Mexican Jaime Munguia on Saturday evening in Tijuana. Thanks to this feat against the WBC number two at super-middleweight (-76.2kg), Surace undoubtedly turned his life and career around.

Guest of Fighter Club on RMC Sport on Sunday evening, Bruno Surace looked back on his victory: “It’s clear that he wasn’t expecting me there and that he wanted to take care of his return home before having a great year in 2025 in the super-middleweight (-76.2kg) I came to spoil this party,” said this OM fan.

Opposed to Munguia, who had 44 victories in 45 fights before this fight, Bruno Surace had even moved up in category for the occasion, he who remained on a European silver title in middleweight (-72.574 kg). “I came there to show who I was and to be discovered by the general public,” said the person. “It was a total bonus operation for me, there was no negative pressure about it.”

A future rematch against Munguia?

Sent to the mat in the second round, Bruno Surace finally knocked out his opponent in the sixth round, with a right. “We noticed that he had a little defensive relaxation after each of his attacks,” explained the Frenchman, now ninth in the world at super middleweight according to the BoxRec reference ranking. “The goal was to make him follow. It took me a few rounds to find that timing.”

Unknown to the general public before this fight against one of the big names in boxing, Bruno Surace risks seeing his initial plans be modified. “I think we certainly have the prospect of a revenge,” Surace said, without knowing if Munguia was really going to ask for it.

“There may be other opportunities in super-middleweight but my category is middleweight,” Surace then refocused. “This is where I am best and most optimized to fight. We will study the opportunities but I am going to take this end of the year to rest and start 2025 fully. This will inevitably open doors for us, there should be have big challenges.”
