The Marquesas and Huahine start their sports festivals

Polynesia is celebrating this end of year period. Two festivals started today: the To’a Mo’a in Huahine, and the Archipelago Games in the Marquesas.

The “biggest sporting and cultural competition in Huahine” will start this afternoon at 2 p.m. and will continue until December 21. The last delegations arrived on the island early this morning by sea aboard the Vaeara’i. Each year, the event brings together more than 1,500 participants. Athletes who come from the four corners of Polynesia and who compete in more than fifteen different disciplines such as futsal, 8-a-side football, pétanque, running, or even patia fa through carbass .

Another popular event starting today: the Marquesas Archipelago Games. Representatives of the five islands of the archipelago met at Move Hiva until this morning. The opening ceremony will also take place in theaclosemidi at the stadium Buried from 4 p.m., a prayer and a speech will be pronouncedthere will also be a flag raising and a horse parade.

Eight disciplines will be celebrated over a period of four days: football, volleyball, pétanque and not forgetting traditional sports.
