CAF Awards 2024: twenty-six years later, will Morocco return to the Ballon d’Or?

With a total of 11 finalists out of 45 possible, Morocco is well ahead of the nominations. The Kingdom therefore has a good chance of seeing its representatives win a number of awards. National women’s football is best represented at this edition of the CAF Awards. Thus, AS FAR striker Sanaa Mssoudy appears in the list of finalists for the title of best player of the year alongside Barbra Banda (Zambia, Orlando Pride) and Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria, FC). In the category of best goalkeeper of the year, we find Mssoudy’s teammate at AS FAR and in the national team, Khadija Er-Rmichi, who is also in the running against Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria, Paris FC) and Andile Dlamini (South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns).

Young hope of national women’s football, Doha El Madani is present in the final list of the category of young African players of the year. Winner of the African Women’s Champions League with TP Mazembe, Lamia Boumehdi could well win the trophy for best coach of the year. She is in competition with her compatriot and AS FAR coach, Mohamed Amine Alioua. The FAR team is present in the list of women’s clubs of the year with Edo Queens (Nigeria) and TP Mazembe (DR Congo). For its part, the women’s national team competes with South Africa and Nigeria for the title of best national team of the year.

Goalkeeper of the Year : Ronwen Williams (South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns), André Onana (Cameroon, Manchester United), Yahia Fofana (Ivory Coast, SCO).

Goalkeeper of the Year : Khadija Er-Rmichi (Maroc, AS FAR), Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria, Paris FC), Andile Dlamini (Afrique du Sud, Mamelodi Sundowns).

Interclub Player of the Year : Ronwen Williams (South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns), Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” (Egypt, Zamalek), Hussein El Shahat (Egypt, Al-Ahly).

Interclub Player of the Year : Marta Lacha Flora (Angola, TP Mazembe), Doha El Madani (Morocco, AS FAR), Sanaa Mssoudy (Morocco, AS FAR).

Coach of the Year : Hugo Broos (South Africa), Emerse Faé (Ivory Coast), Sébastien Desabre (Democratic Republic of Congo).

Coach of the Year (Women’s Team) : Lamia Boumehdi (TP Mazembe), Mohamed Amine Alioua (AS FAR), Ahmed Ramadan (FC Masar), Thinasonke Mbuli (UWC football).

Young Player of the Year : Karim Konaté (Ivory Coast, Red Bull Salzburg), Oumar Diakité (Ivory Coast, Stade de ), Lamine Camara (Senegal, AS Monaco).

Young African Player of the Year : Doha El Madani (Morocco, AS FAR), Habiba Sabry (Égypte, FC Masar), Chiamaka Okwuchukwu (Nigeria, Rivers Angels).

Club of the year : Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Al-Ahly (Egypt), Zamalek (Egypt).
