A Pelé jersey, a Roger Federer racket and many other sporting treasures are being auctioned this Sunday in Neuilly-sur-Seine. This exceptional sale includes 162 pieces, estimated at more than 500,000 euros, according to the Aguttes house in charge of the event.
The collector, a 78-year-old Swiss entrepreneur wishing to remain anonymous, built this unique collection thanks to privileged connections in the world of sport. Among his treasured souvenirs is a Pelé jersey, received directly from the hands of the Brazilian legend during a memorable meeting in Lausanne, which he describes as an unforgettable moment.
This collection is full of emblematic objects steeped in history. It includes a ball signed by the 1992 basketball “Dream Team”, a WBA heavyweight belt won by Evander Holyfield against Mike Tyson in 1996 and a Roger Federer racket used during his victory at Wimbledon in 2005. Each piece bears witness to a particular history and a passion for sport.
Despite the emotional richness attached to these objects, the collector decided to part with them, due to a lack of buyers in his family. However, he wanted to keep a few rare pieces, carefully put aside for his grandchildren, thus perpetuating the sporting legacy he has built over the years.
Even if the helmet of Ayrton Senna or Michael Schumacher escaped him, this enthusiast has no regrets. “At my age, the only apprehension is the future, not the past,” he confides wisely, thus testifying to a philosophy focused on the essential.
