Belgians abroad: Real Madrid, with Courtois, hanging on to Rayo Vallecano

FRANCE

lined up an eleventh match in a row without defeat in the French championship, snatching a point on the lawn of (1-1) for the 15th day of Ligue 1 on Saturday. Ngal’ayel Mukau and Mathias Fernandes-Pardo started with LOSC and were replaced after 65 minutes when Thomas Meunier came on.

Arsenal were held at home by Everton (0-0) during the 16th day of the Premier League on Saturday. Leandro Trossard started on the bench and came on for the Gunners in the 75th minute. Orel Mangala played the entire match for the Toffees.

Holder, De Ketelaere failed to make the difference before giving way to Nicolo Zaniolo (64th). A profitable change for Gian Piero Gasperini because Zaniolo scored the opening goal 120 seconds later on a service from Roberto Bellanova (66th, 0-1).

A tenth consecutive victory for Atalanta which consolidates its place as leader of Serie A with 37 points, five more than Naples which goes to Udinese at 6:00 p.m.

GERMANY

Bayern Munich bit the dust for the first time this season in the league with a 2-1 defeat at Mainz for the 14th day of the Bundesliga. Lee Jae-Sung first took advantage of errors in the Bavarian defense (41st, 1-0) before scoring twice in the second half (60th, 2-0). Leroy Sané’s reduction in the score did not change anything at the end of the game (2-1, 87th).

Despite this defeat, the club coached by Vincent Kompany retains the lead in the Bundesliga with 33 points but sees Bayer Leverkusen, winner 0-2 at Augsburg, come back four points. Mainz ranks 6th with 22 points.

Werder Bremen won 0-2 at St. Pauli with goals from Derrick Kohn (24th, 0-1) and Marvin Duksch (54th, 0-2). Senne Lynen played the entire match while Olivier Deman came on in the 82nd for Werder who now rank 7th with 22 points. St. Pauli remains 15th with 11 points.

Sporting CP returned to victory after four defeats in a row in all competitions by taking over Boavista (3-2) on Saturday for the 14th day of the Portuguese championship. Zeno Debast played the entire match for the Lisbon club.

Four days after the defeat at Club Bruges in the Champions League, Sporting took control thanks to Viktor Gyokeres (23rd, 1-0) but Robert Bozenik restored the tie (43rd, 1-1). Francisco Trincao restored the lead to Sporting (49th, 2-1) before Boavista equalized a second time via Bruno Onyemaechi (58th, 2-2).

Trincao finally scored the winning goal (66th, 3-2) for Sporting which consolidates its first place in the standings with 36 points, five more than Benfica which has two matches less.
