This included for buyers, in addition to tickets for the game against the Washington Capitals, a special gift and a group photo with Russian Jackets hockey player Kirill Marchenko, not to mention a performance by a dance troupe from of this country. However, a protest campaign led by a local Ukrainian non-profit group – the United Ukrainian Organizations of Ohio – was successful, so the project fell through on Wednesday.

According to Alex Braverman, one of the heads of the Russian Heritage Network in charge of the canceled event, the decision to scrap the whole thing was motivated by a desire to protect the players, as reported by The Ukrainian Weekly. . The “Caps” also have in their ranks captain Alexander Ovechkin (injured), who has repeatedly publicly expressed his support for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

However, in Columbus, about 20 Jackets sponsors, club senior management and the state governor reportedly received letters denouncing the club idea. The latter declined despite the purchase of around fifty packages for the famous Russian evening, according to the matchtv.ru site.

On the National League side, vice-president of public relations and media services, Gary Meagher, declared that the circuit had nothing to do with the organization of the activity in question.
