From around the NHL: news from Oliver Wahlstrom, Alexander Ovechkin and Bo Horvat

The Boston Bruins claimed New York Islanders forward Oliver Wahlstrom on waivers on Saturday.

Wahlstrom had scored 2 goals and recorded as many assists in 27 games before his name was placed on waivers on Friday.

Former 1st round pick – 11th overall – in 2018, the American forward failed to become an impact player with the Islanders. He scored 36 goals and had 35 assists in 220 games with the Islanders.

Ovechkin’s rehabilitation continues

Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin participated in a skills-based workout with assistant coach Kenny McCudden, the next step in his rehabilitation from a fractured fibula.

Ovechkin was originally expected to miss four to six weeks of activities following his injury suffered on November 18.

He has 15 goals and 10 assists in 18 games since the start of the season and is only 26 goals behind Wayne Gretzky at the top of the all-time scoring list.

Horvat injured in the upper body

New York Islanders forward Bo Horvat is out with an upper-body injury and his condition will be re-evaluated daily.

The 29-year-old athlete played 16 minutes 55 seconds against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night, scoring 1 goal.

Horvat has 8 goals and 14 assists in 31 games since the start of the season.
