The two National Hockey League (NHL) clubs made a transaction on Saturday. The Blues also get a fourth-round pick in the 2027 draft, while the Ducks get their hands on Quebec defenseman Jeremie Biakabutuka and a second-round selection in 2027.
The Ducks will also retain 38.5% of Fowler’s salary, whose impact on the payroll is US6.5 million until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
Selected at 12e promoted by the Ducks in 2010, Fowler has so far totaled 96 goals and 457 points since his debut with the Bettman circuit in 2010-2011. He was assistant captain of the Californian team during the last five campaigns.
This season, Fowler has been limited to four assists in 17 games.
“This was a difficult trade to make given what Cam meant to this organization,” Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said in a statement. He was a valuable and respected member of our team for 15 seasons.
“After meeting with Cam several times over the last few months, it became clear to both of us that it might be time for a change. As usual, Cam handled the process professionally and remained committed to the Ducks. »
Biakabutuka signed his first NHL contract in July 2023 with the Blues, but has yet to see action in the league. The 22-year-old athlete was playing with the Florida Everblades in the ECHL at the time of the transaction.
In five seasons in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Val-d’Or Foreurs, the Rimouski Océanic and the Charlottetown Islanders, Biakabutuka amassed 40 goals, 118 points and 199 penalty minutes.
