La Gantoise has already strengthened for the second half of the season. Former Cercle de Bruges Leonardo Lopes has joined the Buffalos.
A free player and therefore free to play more than 100 matches in the Jupiler Pro League? It’s quite rare, and La Gantoise took advantage of it. The Buffalos announced this Friday the signing of Leonardo Lopes (26 years old), free since last July and the end of his contract at Cercle de Bruges.
Lopes, a defensive midfielder trained in England, signed with Cercle in 2020. He is committed to the Planet Group Arena until 2028. A great deal because the Portuguese is valued at 3 million euros on Transfermarkt and was a pillar of the Green & Black.
In four seasons with Cercle, Leonardo Lopes has played 120 matches (5 goals, 8 assists, including more than 100 in the Jupiler Pro League. A great experience which will now be put to the service of Wouter Vrancken.
“Leonardo Lopes perfectly matches what we were looking for. He is a dynamic player with an impressive athletic presence. He is the type of defensive midfielder that we did not have yet,” rejoices Arnar Vidarsson, sporting director of La Gantoise , on the club’s official website.
Leonardo Lopes should not, however, enter into action with the Buffalos before the resumption in January, La Gantoise specifies in its press release.
