One of the last sporting events of the year with the volleyball festival organized by the league in Rivière-Salée on Saturday December 14. A seduction operation, particularly among young audiences, to introduce the discipline and attract new practitioners to the clubs.
The Veyret sports complex welcomed a dozen teams for a very dynamic tournament. From very young people to the junior category, for eight-minute matches: the commitment was total for these budding volleyball players. A reunion after a long period without competition, and an educational approach to teach the fundamentals of volleyball to potential future recruits.
“On a 60 % of graduates and 40 % of non-licenseesexplains Jean Waiaridri, technical manager of the volleyball league. And what the president of the league asked was to try to open this day to children, with the aim of preparing for Christmas. [Inviter] children who are not licensed, and their parents, introduce them to volleyball and why not join clubs next year.”
Outside, two other forms of practice with beach volleyball. Five teams of two competed all morning. Among these players, who are also often found on the beach of Anse-Vata, licensees but not only, because the tournament wants to trigger desires.
“It’s really promotion to be able to bring people together around volleyball, and why not open up a little more so that there are a lot of players next year. By diversifying practices with beach volleyball, to try to reach more people“, explains Armonie Konhu, member of the volleyball league.
Last variation of the day with green volleyball, the most practiced in the country, but not in competition. The volleyball festival ended in style in Nouméa, after the success of the days in the Northern province and on the islands. The event brought a little smile back to the Rivière-Salée district.
