Effective, without impressing, La Louvière defeated RFC Seraing this Friday evening in an almost empty Pairay. The RAAL virtually regains its leading position in the Challenger Pro League, pending the trip from Zulte-Waregem to Lommel this Saturday.
After losing its seat as leader of the Challenger Pro League by having three points withdrawn following the bankruptcy of SK Deinze, the RAAL set out to regain its place, this Friday evening at Pairay, the lair of RFC Seraing welcoming only a few hundred spectators for this meeting.
In freezing cold (the thermometer flirted with negative temperatures at kick-off), the meeting did not start at a frantic pace. The first opportunity is to the credit of Louviérois and Mohamed Guindo, who takes a corner from Owen Maes, next (8th). The Steelworkers’ response came from the feet of Bouchentouf, whose sending was blocked for a corner by Maisonneuve (10th).
The midfield battle is decisive in this match with a very low number of shots on goal, and it is La Louvière who wins it little by little. Higher on the board, the RAAL wins the duels and sees Owen Maes dangerously spill over into the left lane. His low cross, blocked, arrives at the feet of Nolan Gillot, whose shot bounces off the post before deceiving Margueron (0-1, 24th). A few minutes later, the Seraing goalkeeper took the break point away from the same Gillot, completely forgotten by the defense on a long ball from Peano (31st).
Under the eyes of Daré Nibombé, the Togolese coach who came to observe the performance of Fadel Gobitaka… remaining on the bench, the second period started on the same basis but with, this time, a more enterprising RFC Seraing in possession. Pape Moussa Fall is sought several times, in vain.
In the other direction, the RAAL does not really manage to worry Margueron either. On a very difficult and jumpy Pairay pitch, Frédéric Taquin’s players nevertheless managed to do it, via Guindo, launched face to face. The former RSC Anderlecht player, however, also came up against Margueron (79th).
With a minimal but serious performance, La Louvière won in Seraing and virtually regained its seat as leader of the Challenger Pro League, while awaiting the trip from Zulte-Waregem to Lommel this Saturday.
