Claudio Imhof puts away his bike. The best Swiss track rider of recent years announced on his social networks that he was retiring from sport.
“After 21 years in cycling and 16 as a professional, it is time for me to say goodbye. It was a journey filled with passion, challenges and successes that shaped me as an athlete and as a person“, wrote the 34-year-old from Thurgau, who will now begin training as a train driver.
His bronze medal in scratch at the World Championships in London in 2016 will remain as his greatest success. With 9 medals (3 silver, 6 bronze) won in the European Championships and during the European Games, he is one of the most decorated Swiss track athletes in history.
Imhof has also ridden the Tour de Suisse on the road several times. On the other hand, he never participated in the Olympic Games, which will remain as the main downside of his beautiful and long career.
