A sporting and popular success and a positive budgetary balance. In any case, this is what the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, still chaired by Tony Estanguet, announced on Wednesday December 11, on the eve of its board meeting. The organizers were thus pleased to present a financial balance sheet with a slight surplus (26.8 million euros) with more than 4.480 billion euros in revenue for approximately 4.453 billion in expenses.
A positive result which allows Cojop, in particular, not to mobilize the various guarantees from stakeholders such as the State, the city of Paris and the Île-de-France region. On the other hand, the organizers recalled that all the potential additional costs linked to the security put in place by all the police forces, dependent only on the state, were not included in this assessment.
What allowed Cojop to announce such results obviously comes from the popular success of the Games. While more than 9.5 million tickets were sold for the Olympic Games and more than 2.5 million for the Paralympics, the final figure for ticketing-related revenues amounts to more than 1.489 billion euros (including including 156 million euros in hospitality revenue). “A considerable figure, which best reflects the success of Paris 2024 since it is 87 million euros more than in the provisional budget voted in December 2023, and even 348 million euros more than what we had provided for in the draft application” rejoice the organizers.
Finally, this surplus of 26.8 million euros will be divided into three: 20% for the Cnosf, 20% for the IOC and finally 60% in the promotion and development of sport in France in which the Cojop reserves the right to grant a share in favor of the Paralympic Committee of the French sport (CPSF).
