Remco Evenepoel will launch an accident prevention campaign with the Belgian Post Office (Bpost). The rider was recently the victim of an accident with one of his vehicles.
Evenepoel (24 years old) suffered multiple fractures after hitting the door of a Bpost car. He should only be able to return to training at the end of January.
‘Bpost, in partnership with the R.Ev Academy, is launching a prevention campaign against door accidents, also called dooring’, indicates a press release from the Post Office. Concretely, a sticker bearing the image of the Belgian champion will be affixed to the door windows to remind motorists to check for the presence of cyclists before opening, according to the same source.
Bpost drivers, already trained in the ‘Dutch technique’ (opening the door with the opposite hand to better check the arrival of cyclists and/or pedestrians, Editor’s note), will be the first equipped with this sticker, which will be installed across the entire company fleet. The general public will be able to obtain the sticker free of charge from December 10 via the website lereflexeremco.be.
‘Road users must be attentive to each other,’ Remco Evenepoel reminded. Last Tuesday, near Brussels, the runner was unable to avoid a Bpost car, whose postwoman had suddenly opened the door
The double Olympic champion from Paris suffered fractures to a rib, to the right shoulder blade, to a hand and suffers from contusions to the lungs and a dislocation of the right clavicle.
