Formula 1 | Cadillac explains why it ‘trusted’ Ferrari

Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon has revealed that the team chose Ferrari as its powertrain supplier due to its “confidence” in the Italian manufacturer.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that Cadillac will become a Ferrari customer team, subject to F1 and the FIA agreeing and approving its entry onto the grid in 2026.

The American team is expected to join the grid when the new powertrain regulations are introduced, with Ferrari supplying Cadillac with powertrains and gearboxes.

In doing so, Ferrari now has two customer teams for the new engine regulations, with Cadillac joining Haas F1 as a customer of the Maranello-based team.

As Lowdon pointed out, choosing the right powertrain supplier for its debut is crucial for Cadillac, something it said was achieved with Ferrari.

“We are delighted to partner with Ferrari as a powertrain and transmission supplier for our Cadillac team, bringing together two remarkable heritages.”

“Choosing the right powertrain partner is crucial, and we have confidence in Ferrari’s passion, excellence and exceptional capabilities.”

Frédéric Vasseur, the team director, will therefore have a second American team as a customer for his engines.

“It’s great to see the commitment of another American team, backed by one of the automotive industry’s most respected brands, at a time when Formula 1 is growing in popularity in the United States.”

“We are therefore delighted to provide the team with our power unit and gearbox as the basis of this technical collaboration. This means that we will continue to have two ‘customer teams’ in the championship with all the benefits that this brings in terms of technical development within Ferrari.”
