the J14 debrief

After each day of Ligue 1 McDonald's, the FFF Refereeing Department analyzes certain situations which required the use of video assistance during the weekend.

ANGERS –

Along the touchline, player no. 99 from Angevin intervenes on player no. 22 from Lyon, with a tackle made from behind (13th). The intensity of the tackle and the “scissors” gesture around the legs of the Lyon player lifts the latter, even if the Angevin player's right foot touches the ball. The referee whistles the foul and sends a warning to the offender for unsportsmanlike behavior, considering that the tackle was made in a reckless manner. The video referee checks the situation and suggests viewing the images at the edge of the pitch for a potential direct red card. After viewing the images, the referee decided to maintain his yellow card decision, despite gestures which seemed to indicate that he was deciding to cancel it.

Analysis of the Arbitration Directorate

The tackle, made from behind in an uncontrolled manner, with speed and intensity, clearly endangers the physical integrity of the Lyon player. The two feet off the ground and the “scissors” gesture around the legs of the Lyon player are additional elements which confirm the dangerousness of the tackle, without the possibility for the Lyon player to anticipate the possible impact. The ball touched by the Angevin player cannot be sufficient to cancel out the dangerous nature of the tackle. The exclusion for gross fouling was expected following the viewing of the images at the sidelines.

Near the corner post, player no. 15 from Rennes makes a side tackle by throwing himself with his left leg outstretched onto the left foot of player no. 98 from Nantes who was driving the ball, thus sweeping away the latter's ground support. (45th + 4). The Rennes player misses the ball which slips between his legs. The referee whistles the foul, in collaboration with his assistant referee, and directly excludes the offender for a gross foul.

Analysis of the Arbitration Directorate

The tackle actually endangers the physical integrity of the Nantes player, through its impact on the opposing feet, its intensity, its speed and its lack of control. The direct exclusion for gross misconduct was a good decision.
