Olivier Renard is interested in Haruna Rasid Njie, a talented 19-year-old Gambian player playing for RFS Riga. This versatile midfielder, capable of playing in defensive roles, impressed in the Europa League with his physical power, speed and technique. Anderlecht has already made initial contact with his entourage with a view to a transfer.
Fox: “One or two priority positions”
Before the Croky Cup match between Anderlecht and Westerlo, Olivier Renard spoke to RTL about his projects as sporting director of the Mauves et Blancs.
Asked about the winter transfer window and the club’s ambitions in January, Renard confirmed his intention to strengthen the team.
“I think everyone knows there are specific positions where we are lacking numerically,” he said. “For a coach it can be a problem in case of injuries or suspensions. Yes, there are one or two priority positions.”
This statement seems to point clearly towards central defense, where Anderlecht are looking to strengthen in both quality and quantity.
Njie in Renard’s sights
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Renard is already actively working behind the scenes for the winter transfer window. Among the targets identified, Haruna Rasid Njie figures prominently.
Njie had already attracted the attention of Anderlecht when he played against the Mauves in the Europa League group stage. Impressed by his performances, the club took steps to obtain information on the young Gambian player.
This 19-year-old defensive midfielder is also capable of playing in central defense or even as a right or left full-back. His promising profile caught the attention of the Brussels recruitment team. Initial contacts have already been established with his current club, RFS Riga, as well as with its representatives. Its market value is currently estimated at 350,000 euros.
Njie, the beating heart of the midfielder
Arriving in Europe last January, Njie quickly established himself at RFS Riga after leaving his native Gambia. Even before his transfer, he was already on the radars of several European clubs.
In 2023, Liverpool would have studied his profile after his remarkable performances at the U20 CAN and the U20 World Cup, where he distinguished himself as the metronome of the Gambian environment. Njie had dominated the debates, even against formidable opponents like France.
Measuring 1m84, the young player stands out for his physical strength, his speed, his technique and his ability to shine in transitions. A real engine in the midfield, Njie can intercept opposing attacks, create opportunities for his team, and dictate the pace of the game. A profile that perfectly matches the needs of Anderlecht.
