Lawyer and law professor Henry Peter, already a member of the foundation board, will succeed Aventinus founder François Longchamp. He will take office on January 1, 2025.
Henry Peter believes that “philanthropy is a contributor that can play an essential role in favor of democracy” through support for independent and quality media. A mission that the foundation has given itself and of which he declares himself “absolutely convinced of the importance”.

The future president of the Aventinus Foundation, 64, is a specialist in governance and social responsibility of companies and sports federations. He also works as an arbitrator in commercial and sports law. He is also a member of several boards of directors, committees and institutions.
Henry Peter will leave his position as professor at the University of Geneva (UNIGE) at the end of the year. Between 2008 and 2012, he created and then directed a joint business law program at UNIGE and the University of Lausanne. Charged by the rectorate in 2017, he created and directed the Center for Philanthropy at UNIGE.
François Longchamp leaves office after five years
Former president of the Geneva Council of State, François Longchamp will leave his position after five years of commitment, the foundation said in a press release on Tuesday.
“He used his strategic vision and leadership to structure and consolidate the foundation’s activities, while supporting essential initiatives for pluralism and journalistic excellence,” she wrote.
