The unexpected success of the players’ sticker album

Launched on November 27, the SMC Foot sticker album is a real success, with more than 3,300 packages of stickers sold in just over two days… Julien Pierron, its initiator, is the first to be surprised.

“I really didn’t think it would work this well!” » Less than two weeks after its release, the album of stickers that he launched bearing the image of his club, SMC Foot, is a success. It’s even a tidal wave. “The first batch of 1,700 sticker packs sold out in two days. On Wednesday, December 4, I received 1,650 more. In two hours, everything was gone! » Such enthusiasm, that the director of SMC Foot recommended 3,000, which he must receive this week.

A childhood memory

At the origin of this album, there is a childhood memory. “When I was little, I was already a football fan and I made Panini albums,” says Julien Pierron. “Last year, (like other Haut- clubs, Editor’s note) my brother’s club published one and I said to myself that it would be a good idea to do it at Marnaval. I talked to the club president about it, who told me OK, but you manage everything! »

Without a second thought, Julien Pierron contacted the Italian company Akinda, specialized in sticker albums. “We waited for all the licenses to be registered and in mid-September, the company sent me a selfie machine with all the information on each SMC player. »

Almost all SMC licensees played the game

All that remained was to draw a portrait of all the Marnaval footballers. Julien Pierron devoted a full week to shooting the 336 different vignettes. And almost all the licensees played the game. “We have all the SMC staff, from U6-U7 to senior men and women. We also have all the managers and the referees,” explains Julien Pierron. “For some teams, we even have the group photo, divided into two vignettes. »

“The little ones are crazy when they open the packages”

And the enthusiasm was immediate. “Everyone is happy. The little ones go crazy when they open the packages and the parents get involved too. As they start to have duplicates, they exchange the stickers between them! », Rejoices Julien Pierron, who is overwhelmed by calls and messages to find out when the next restock will be available, directly from the club or at the tobacco press Le Totem, which also offers them for sale.

What to repeat the experience next year? Not necessarily. “The novelty effect makes it work well, but I’m not sure it works every year. Maybe every four or five years… I’ll see if there are requests or not,” concludes Julien Pierron. In the meantime, all that’s left to do is try to complete his album. Three young people from the club are also very close: they only need around ten stickers…
