Last summer, it quickly became apparent that Dennis Praet was going to return to Belgium. If he was expected at Anderlecht, it was ultimately for Antwerp that he signed.
The former Golden Boot was then seen as a big deal and many regretted that the Mauves had not managed to convince him. Considered the creative number ten that the people of Brussels are missing, those who have followed football in recent weeks will have realized that Praet is no longer that type of player.
A changing role
During his debut at Anderlecht, Praet was indeed a creative number ten, after which his role evolved. He has become a player whose role is above all to ensure the liaison between the defensive and offensive sectors but at Anwterp, he does not even shine in this role.
General opinion is therefore currently quite bad against him, with observers expecting much more from him. However, there is still hope that things will change since Praet is only 30 years old and it is therefore not too late to become decisive again.
Find your best level
Gilles De Bilde is in any case quite clear about Praet: “It’s true, Praet has not yet been able to meet expectations. We can also wonder if he can still regain his best level. Let’s not forget that Praet has played very little in recent years, particularly due to numerous injuries.”
For Praet, there is therefore the hope that the sequence of matches will allow him to find a rhythm which will make him progress and thus help Antwerp and be remembered fondly by his supporters. If this is not the case, he may have to give up his starting place to players like Denis Odoi and Mahamadou Doumbia.
