The City of Morges presented the Sports Merits awards to local athletes on Thursday, December 5, during a ceremony at the CUBE in Beausobre. The public present was also able to discover the multifaceted journey of Celine van Till, double medalist athlete at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
The results achieved by the four candidates for Individual Merit are all particularly remarkable. His Olympic participation and his 4th place at the last Games, however, place Raphaël Ahumada in the lead. The Sports Merit prize in the “individual elite” category therefore goes to the Forward rower.
The Sports Merit in the “team” category was then awarded to the SSL Super League team from the Club Nautique Morgien: Sam Kivell, Fiona Testuz, Denis Girardet, Romain Lenormand, Louis Buxtorf, Antoine Prokos, Loix Gaussen, Ella Dörries and Grégoire Siegwart . In the “hopeful” category, the Sports Merit goes to curler Nathan Dryburgh, who joined the national team and won a third place at the Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games in January and February 2024. In addition to the Sports Merits, the City awarded 7 diplomas to individual athletes or teams.
The selection of the winning athletes followed a call for applications, during which 12 applications representing 7 different sports reached the Sports Office. Among this panel, the Municipality distinguished the athletes who achieved the best performances during the period from November 1, 2023 to October 31, 2024.
Special distinctions
The Sports Merits ceremony also allowed us to thank Laurent Savoyen, who wanted to pass the torch of organizing the Night Run for 2025. Laurent Savoyen created and then developed this event which has continued to grow. This year, it brought together 2,826 participants. The ten editions made it possible to raise more than CHF 100,000.00 for associations working for sick children.
A second special distinction was awarded to Morges Bike Ladies. In 2024, a year marked by the hosting of the final stage of the Tour de Romandie Féminin in Morges, this club played an essential role, actively contributing to the development of women’s cycling in the region.
A long-time partner, the Journal de Morges traditionally elects its Favorite, designated by its readership. His 2024 prize goes to Nathan Dryburgh, the young curler from CC Morges.
Presentation by Celine van Till
The evening was punctuated by a presentation by Celine van Till, a Swiss athlete with an exceptional career. The double silver medalist in cycling at the last Paralympic Games in Paris told how she faced with determination the severe after-effects of her accident in 2008 and how she is pursuing an inspiring sporting career.
