Without a club since his departure from FC Porto this summer, Portuguese coach Sergio Conceição would be coveted by a Brazilian club.
The success of Portuguese coaches in Brazil no longer needs to be proven. After Jorge Jesus and Abel Ferreira, it is the former Braga player, Artur Jorge, who is currently at the top of the bill. Freshly won the Copa Libertadores, the Botafogo technician is also on the verge of winning the national championship. What motivate other Brazilian clubs to seek Portuguese coaches?
Sergio Conceição is highly sought after
One of them is currently free from any contract. Indeed, since his departure from FC Porto this summer, which followed the change of president at the head of the Portuguese club, Sergio Conceição has been on the market. And if in recent days the French press declared that the former technician of the Dragons was the priority of the president of FC Nantes, it is a completely different challenge that he could have to take on.
According to Goal, Atlético Mineiro are currently interested in the profile of the Portuguese coach. For good reason, the Brazilian club has recently parted ways with its former coach Gabriel Milito, following the team's successive defeats against Botafogo in the Copa Libertadores final (1-3), and Vasco da Gama in the league (2- 0).
Un Portugais à l'Atlético Mineiro?
With his long experience in the ranks of FC Porto, Sergio Conceição would therefore be one of the priorities of the Brazilian team. Eager to bet on a Portuguese coach to start a new project, it would also have targeted two other technicians, namely Luis Castro and Carlos Carvalhal.
Without a club since his departure from Al-Nassr last September, the first city has the particularity of knowing the Brazilian championship perfectly, after having had a first notable experience at Botafogo. Regarding Carlos Carvalhal, the operation should be much more complex, as the 59-year-old technician is currently under contract with SC Braga.
